Inkosi pivot adjustment

My new small Inkosi is super hard to open. Very stiff. I'm new to CRK and was wondering if there is a proper way to loosen pivot? Loosen one or both pivot screws? Should it be this stiff? I'm hoping for some input from more experienced users. I don't want to bigger up an expensive knife. Thanx in advance.

Just loosen the show side a hair while its locked open. Or just play with it for a few days. Use it good and hard and it should loosen up on it's own.

Test the pivot by taking lock bar pressure off the blade and feeling how it rotates.

Enjoy!

I just worked mine a while and it set itself very nicely. In fact, I haven’t messed with it at all since it broke itself in. If it really bugs you I would do what was suggested. I’m just fiddly and handsy so I got mine broken in over the course of a few evenings playing with it. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Have you taken it apart to clean/grease it yet?

I'm going to come right out and say it. I detest lanyards. However I didnt want to cut or untie the one on my large Inkosi, so the first thing I did was pop it apart to remove the lanyard and see how everything worked in the knife.

The nice thing about the Inkosi is that you can fine tune the pivot. Unlike other knives not really designed for tuning, it won't go all loosey goosey with the slightest crank. I took mine apart, cleaned it, greased it and took it back to 1/2 past snug. The action was smooth but tight. Backed it to 1/4 past snug (these are technical terms;)), and it thumbs open like it's on hydrologics with enough firmness to keep any play out of the blade.

No need to have it locked open to adjust the pivot screw. You may need to use a wrench on both sides if it spins when using only one screw.

Just do a tiny turn and then check it. Adjust to your desired action. Sometimes a little purple loctite may be needed to keep the adjustment at that exact spot, sometimes it is not needed.

Or that :rolleyes::cool:

Don't know why, but the small CRK's seem to be stiff out of the box. I've had a couple of small 21's like that.
I'd tell you to back off the screw about a round and see if that helps the stiffness, if not then you' ll need to take it apart clean it and re grease it as already mentioned. Don't worry about the blade going off center, on my large Inkosi, I've had the pivot screw completely out and it still was dead center and functioned like it was there.

All good answers in this thread!

My recent retail-purchase Inkosi was a bit too tight from the box. I took it apart (two wrenches) for a sparing amount of fresh grease then adjusted it just a smidge tighter than my preference with a tiny bit of purple LocTite. After 3-4 more days of use it was perfectly broken in to my taste.

If you have to do another adjustment along the way, it’s no big deal. It’s way easier than on other knives to get the feel you want without blade play or centering issues.

I always use a smidge of purple (low strength) on my Inkosi and Umnumzaan pivots. I guess some people don’t. In particular, one of my Umnumzaans tends to loosen without it.

If I disassemble my other knives, pivots (especially bearing knives) get a smidge of medium strength blue and scales/clips get purple. I use LocTite on lots of other things too.
