Inlay adhesive tape?

I have a sebenza with inlays that I'm wanting to mod. I would like to remove the inlays and blast the handles. All I'm wanting to know is if someone has removed/replaced any inlays and what kind of adhesive they used. I know CRK uses a 3M VHB tape, but there's a ton of options and item numbers out there and I'd like to know which one they use. I guess I could also just mask over the inlays with a couple layers of tape but I've had varying degrees of success with that in the past.

I've heard it is very hard to remove the inlays without breaking them. That is why CRK doesn't do it. Micarta is the exception which can be blasted with the inlay intact.
Sorry I can't be of more help

I've found a way to remove them but I'm thinking I might call CRK and see if they have an answer.

Not sure if this is a concern; will the adhesive work as well on a blasted surface?

Well I did a little testing and blue masking tape holds up extremely well to sandblasting. So I put two layers over the inlays and used a new bobbly knife to carefully trim around the inlays and then blasted it with some fine sand. It came out awesome and I love the way it looks now.

Thanks! It is a lighter finish than the CRK sandblasting which I really like because snail trails are not such a contrast and therefore seem to hide a bit better. This is my grail as of now. Large cf inlay ladder Damascus!

That's a big improvement! I never appreciated the 2 tone finish on the inlaid Sebbies so have stuck to micarta only, this is a nice solution.

Wow! I am still waiting for the CF inlaid Insingo to come back on stock and was planning to have this done after I get the first marks on the Ti scale.. Will you provide this mod in the future?

I'm lucky to love somewhat close to the HQ of 3M: I have some different types of adhesive from them that never makes it to the consumer market. FYI, it is possible to remove inlays without damaging the scales themselves. I've done it several times, no problem.

I'm curious, does it involve heat on the backside of the scale?

Your knife turned out great! I love the blasted look with the inlay, I which that was an option on more knives.

I know what you mean man. Now that I have a method that works I look at inlayed Sebs in a different light. [emoji6] I think, "you know, that one would look cool with blasted flats".

I used the 3M VHB tape to mount my dolphins on my small seb. I have carried it for over a year everyday and the dolphins have not moved even when many people have pushed on them. Yes I asked my friends to push on them to test the tape.
