Inlay question( how durable)

Hello all,

As most of you know, I recieved my first inlay Sebenza last week.A beautiful classic

with Mammoth Bark.I am a cook at a local Bar and Grill and stand in front of a flat-top

grill all day, cooking hamburgers and chicken.Well obviously there is alot of grease and

steam coming off the grill, floating in the air and finding its way onto my clothes.

My question is, will this grease and steam affect the inlays? Perhaps working its way

under them and causing the double sided tape to become loose? Or maybe even finding

its way into the inlays themselves and causing expansion and cracking?

Any advice, wisdom or general thoughts is greatly appreciated, as I want to carry and

use this knife evrywhere :D

Thanks

jon

Not an ivory expert by any means but mammoth ivory is known to be sensitive to temperature and humidity. That being said it would have to be severe cases in both regards. As long as you keep the inlays coated in some sort of wax I doubt you will have any issues. After all, mammoth ivory has survived for 10,000 years on its own, I wouldnt worry too much about it.

what sort of wax is recommended, I looked on the CRK website in the FAQ section but didn't see anything.

The VHB tape is pretty much bullet-proof in just about every sense other than the literal sense. The mammoth bark inlay itself, on the other hand, may be subject to moisture, oil, etc. It is not a hard-use material AFAIK. You can't treat it like G10 or stabilized wood and expect it to come out without damage.
