"I have handled others including classics and Umnumzaans, and many with inlays. For ergonomics, I found micarta inlays are the greatest. They really enhance the grip. Many people don't like flat metal handles, and inlays eliminate that problem."
The micarta inlays give a feel unlike any of the smooth woods/ivory options CRK has to offer. They are a little rough, and therefore slightly grippy (but is it THAT much more grippy than the bead blast ti? kinda...). They also do not get slippery when wet. At any rate, the greatest benefit is best said by Esav - "Many people don't like flat metal handles, and inlays eliminate that problem." If you are looking to really GRIP the knife, the micarta inlays help because of the extra width and the slightly rough material. That said, extra grip for some might not be the same amount for another. The same way one person's 10/10 is another person's 5/10. YMMV. I myself, and many others think it provides extra grip, but don't expect it to be glueing itself to your hands... Buy one and try it!
Wood inlays, not so much. Micarta does, in my experience, add some extra grip though not enough to really write home about. The plain handles give plenty of grip for my uses.
It's to bad the Chris Reeve doesn't make a senbenza with groves like these because in terms of twisting grip, it doesn't get any better. Maybe we can get him to put them on a 21 or 25.
I have yet to own a micarta inlay, but have some with the wood inlays. They do give a fuller grip vs the plain sided versions. But me being a CRK nut, I love both.
