Should be fine as long as the wall thickness is good enough. I wouldn't want a round handle, though. Oval would be better.

Round handle is bad enough, slip-on foam just makes it worse.

I think a successful aluminum handle may be possible. I always like these little hatchets by William Nease, although I haven't seen anything in a while so I'm not sure if he is still making them or what.

Assuming that he survived and his grandma didn't strangle him for hacking at her boxwood hedge, imagine the story that said mall ninja would come up with to explain that injury.

I'd think after a good hard whack or two, that tube would bend or the bolt would shear.
