I just bought a Inova X-5 flashlight with a blue L.E.D.'s. at Target for $8.50, it was marked down from $32. Although, the light is bright at night, I found the blue color useless to use. I wonder if this color light is popular, or useful for certain situations. Maybe it is worthless, hence the price.

Definitely a steal at that price, even if the color doesn't end up being that useful for you.

That said, I never found blue LEDs to be that great, except that some bleed over into the UV range and therefore make certain objects "glow."

Some reading:

Inova claims that the blue version of the X5 "enhances contrast."

I wouldn't call it worthless, but I've never seen blue being that popular. It probably didn't sell well and was marked down.

I've got one (and an X5 in UV). It isn't nearly as useful as white. But I like it better at night than red or green, which have other meanings to drivers.

When I'm out walking, if I flick a blue light at someone, they will notice me against all the ambient lighting, because the blue is different. It's also good because I don't always want to light up a wide area, just check the ground near me for obstructions, and it works fine for that. It's a change from the usual. The problem is, blue degrades night vision more than other colors.

I generally carry a much brighter, white light anyway, with this as an occasional extra. Actually, I'm surprised Inova never made one in amber, which I find is the best non-white compromise color. No glare, reasonably stealthy, but pretty good for detail vision.
