Is it my imagination or is the Photon Freedom as bright, if not a little brighter, than the Inova X1? I recently bought an X1 for backpacking because of its size and weight, but I think I'm going to return it and use my Photon Freedom light instead. The Photon is as bright, much smaller and lighter, lasts two hours longer, and can be used hands-free with the supplied clip.

For my needs, am I missing something?

You wont nerly have the same runtime at full power on the Photon as the Inova. Better to go to 50% mode for nearly as bright light as full power: http://www.photonlight.com/forum/about1158-0-asc-15.html Or go with a single cell for less light but longer run time.

X1 is a decent endurance light same as Gerber Infinity. If you want modes in your light get the Proton: http://www.photonlight.com/products/proton/index.html

Anyway all companies say the lights are brighter or run longer than they do.

I didn't know the Freedom could be put in 50% mode. I did call Photon and the rep said that I should easily get 10 hours of full bright light and an additional 2 hours of useful light out of the Freedom. He told me, if I don't, there must be something wrong with the unit and that I should send it back for a replacement. Not sure if he's telling the truth, but that's what he said.

As an aside, I've found that, though I like the X5 Tac. as the best for a palmstick, my X1 works just as well in those SHTF situations :)
