there is something to look at for you all :p :p

The X1 delivers a very narrow, precise spotlight with virtually no spill. It is certainly not the brightest light in it's class (single AA LED), but it gives the cleanest beam by far. The light is also easy to find at your local Target store.

If you are looking for a light in it's size and want the brightest output then consider the Fenix L1p.

What he said, 0 side spill is really strange. I recommend the Fenix.

I can't argue with any of what they said. But that said, I like mine alot, as lights go, it's a great little EDC, nice nuetral color light, bright precise beam. It is a little odd having so little side spill, but I can't say it's ever bothered me or anything. I use mine inside machines that I work on for a living everyday, and it works great, light lasts a good long time, and of course the AAs are cheap and available anywhere. So, yeah, nothing fancy, and it's not a Surefire brightness wise, but it's a nice light, especially for the money.

I second stjames' comment - the X1 has great throw, so it's handy if you don't need a lot of flood. Often get home from school after dark and my X1 is nice for illuminating the unpaved road shoulder I have to walk down from the bus stop. I illuminate just the ground in front of me so oncoming motorists or whoever isn't blinded.

If you want something with more spill for <$20, look over the various Chinese-made "Xnovas" available from Lighthound.com -- Lighthound has a great reputation both on this forum (see "Good, Bad, Ugly") and on Candlepowerforums.com. The Chinese Xnovas are very well-reviewed on Candlepower, including this review by our fellow knife knut UnknownVT:

I own several of the multi-LED lights and they're great, especially for their price. I also own one of the Chinese-made Xenon lights and it's a good deal, too.

The x1 rides on my belt 90% of the time. With batts as cheap as they come(free, 3/4 good aa's from the hospital, they replace the heart monitor batts daily)... This thing has been running for no cost for the last 4 months :p I learned to make due with the tight beam, almost prefer it when I'm trying to trace a circuit.

Much easier to hold the x1 in my mouth than the x5 ...

Get about 10hrs from a full batt, about 6-7hrs on the free ones. So no cost and unlimited batts(try 16 batts a day if I want em all)... Tight focused beam of light, useful when looking at something within a metre or so(like finding stuff on a shelf) or holding in your mouth to free up a hand in troubleshooting. No, you can't light up a full room like the x5 will, but you don't need to.

The X1 is the kind of light to use when repairing a computer. It has nice, tight spotlight. I use it for looking behind my TV, VCR, DVD player, computer, and desk. I also inspect my wiring and cabling with it. I can hold it in my mouth without difficulty. I keep mine handy for "now where does this cable go" kind of situations.

It's my EDC choice. I carry it in a small leather "wallet" with my LM S2, Fisher bullet and a BSA striker.

Great for the money. They can be had for close to $20 shipped on-line. I am not sure how much Target charges. It would do in a pinch on a trail but great for looking around dark corners of computers or machinery.

The Fenix L1P wipes the walls with the X1. It's a bit shorter, lighter, and has a much better switch (the momentary on the X1 is pretty useless). The L1P has a very bright (for a 1AA) hotspot, much brighter than the X1. The sidespill of the L1P is dimmer than most lights, but the X1 has none at all.

The L1P does have a much shorter battery life than the X1 (1 hour compared to 8 hours), but even at a drained, dim output, it's still brighter. Use NiMH rechargables, and you get a flatter (albeit a bit shorter) discharge curve, but all you have to do is charge it up again.

There's 2 camps of people regarding the Fenix. Some aren't impressed at all, saying there's better, brighter lights (which is true), but others, like me, are impressed because of the form factor. A Nuwai Q3 will outshine an L1P, but it uses expensive CR123A cells, while the L1P uses plain old AAs. At the moment, the L1P is in a class all by itself. There's some other in the works aparently (Peak, Arc?), but the L1P is the only single AA powered 1W Luxeon light out there, at least the only one worth mentioning.

Of course, the Fenix is 2.5x more expensive (about $45).

thanks for the feed back im going to get it tommarow first thing...ill tell you how i like it

Last minute thoughts. I have had my X1 for about 8 months and my experiences have been on the most part positive. As it has been mentioned, there is very little spill and a very tight beam. At first, I carried mine in a small lumbar pack when I ran at night. However, after about a month of this kind of carry, the finish was pretty much ruined. It hasn't affected the performance of the light, but it certainly doesn't look as nice as it used to. I now carry mine in my pocket and use it for pre-op airway assessment. Lastly, if I were to redesign the light, I would add a few more treads to the cap. Mine hasn't fallen apart like my Streamlight Batonlight but it has come close.

i love my X1 so far its GREAT!!! the light has a tight hold and no spill and it looks pretty sharp....your right about the threads on the cap but im getting use to how many there are....not a bad led for $20...

I carried an Innva X1 for several months. The narrow beam didn't really serve me that well.

The Fenix L1P is so far superior in my uses that there really is no comparison. I love that little light. While I don't think the construction is as good as the ARC AAA, it is better then that great little light too. For ~$46 it was money well spent and it will keep me from tripping in pot holes in parking lots at night and it will help me avoid rattlesnakes at the mailbox at night. What else can I really say? I guess you know which camp I'm in with these little flashlights.
