Inova X5 Tactical Light

I like the X5T. So far I have no real complaints. It would be nice if the tail switch button stood out a little more but it's not a real problem. Just remember it's not a spotlight.

Many people swear by their Inova's, but just as many people rely on their Surefire's just as much. What would you be using this for?

Personally, I went for the Surefire E2e-HA.

It's a nice light....more of a flood light than a spot light. Much longer runtime than a Surefire. I have been carrying an X5T in my briefcase for close work and a Surefire E1 for those times when a longer reach is needed. You might want to check out http://www.candlepowerforums.com/ for more info.

I have an e2e, an original x5 and the x5t. They all have their merits. The e2e is tne best and brightest. I personally like the original x5 better than the tactical. The reason being that is I can stand the original on its tail and light up a room. I had the original in the car and the tactical at bedside when the power went out. I needed to do some chores, and was frustrated that the tactical wouldn't stand up.

It's not the brightest light in the world but it certainly is a tough, rugged little light.

I drop mine, use it in the rain throw it around and it's still going strong.

One thing though, as above, is that I would prefer it if it could stand on its own.

I like the Inova -- especially in the house at night. The e2e is very bright for going up and down stairs in the dark. I would also look at the ARC flashlight for a comparison to the Inova.

Arc's are great but the new models cost about 3 times what a new Inova does. perhaps you can find a used LS for around $40 or buy a blemished LS2 for $60.

if you already have a surefire look into the KL series of LED add-ons.

the inova is just about indestructible. i ran over mine w/ my wife's accord and aside from a few scratches it was undamaged. also dragged it across the bottom of my pond, froze it solid and threw it down. all w/o damage. for toughness and 'cool factor' it is hard to beat.

As you can see, people who have Inova X5Ts really like them. They are very well made and, let's face it, they're the coolest looking light around. In addition, light output is okay.

I do believe that if you're either willing to spend more, or go with a light that doesn't look as good, you can find a light that will outperform the Inova. The E2e with KL1 will outperform the Inova as a light, and is also long enough for use as a pocket stick (at around $100+). A Maglite 2AA fitted with a Badboy 400 will also easily outperform the Inova as a light, and will work as a defensive pocket stick (at around $45 total for Maglite and Badboy module). If you're not worried about use as a palmstick, Arc LS with 123A module is less than half the size of the Inova and will outperform it as a light (at well over $100, although cheaper used and seconds abound).

The Inova isn't a bad choice. I personally would (and am) lean towards the Maglite 2AA fitted with a Badboy 400 and Kroll endswitch. But I keep getting drawn back to the Inova too ... I'm especially beginning to eye the blue one!

Like Joe, I have a MiniMag 2AA, but I put an INRETECH adapter in mine. With lithium AA batteries, I think it may be brighter when shined against a wall in a dark room than my X5T but that's purely subjective. With alkaline batteries in the MiniMag, the X5T is clearly brighter. The Surefires beat them both easily, but the tradeoff is runtime.

well, although the x5t is quite a great looking light, i think something like an m3 with clickie is cooler looking :D . I was going to buy one of these when they first announced them, but the need for 2 123a batteries and the dimming output over time made me reconsider. I'll probably end up getting a kl1 for my e2e. I think that an e2e with kl1 paired with one of the e2c adapters people are selling over at candlepowerforums and a p61 is a pretty versatile combination.

I use my X5T alongside my Surefires. It gets the used batteries and is quite happy with them - although it now has to share with my ARC-LS! The out put of the light is different to a SureFire but as described in this thread they have diferent uses - you do not want to use an E2e/M3 to read a book in bed at night! :D

Ed
