Looking for input on assisted opening BUCK’s. My main interests are the 301, 110, 118 and Odyssey, but was thinking about trying a new style assisted opening. Will these work for an old traditional guy or to new fangled?
Thanks
Bob.

i have a few of the Sirus, Tempest and Rush models. all are nice and work well however the safety tab does frustrate me at times by self-engaging.

had not considered the Paradigm after discovering the Vantage and feeling no "need" for assisted-opening. however was gifted a Paradigm Pro and love it. to me takes the best of the Vantage and just adds assisted opening. a plus to me is it looks a bit more like a "traditional" knife with the scales and bolsters rather then just all aluminum scales.

i've since bought a couple more Paradigms

I'm primarily a big honking folding lockback guy but I have taking a shine to
the AO's I have 2 Tempests and a Paradigm Avid-love em. Daughter has a Rush, which is just a small Tempest. Like it as well but too small for my big mits.

I love the AO and have several. I don't carry them though. I don't care for the Paradigms. The vantage avid or pro can be deployed just as fast, it has the newer look and has a traditional feel about it, IMO. I am a lover of the 300s and any time I carry anything other than a 300 I have a 303 down deep in my pocket just for GP.

For a large number of human years I carried a 303 everyday, and lots of days a 112 in addition. I will fes'up and say the 112 was put up and a small Vantage Avid was accquired. Then a great deal on a Paradigm was found and i tried and liked that also.

BUT, being use to either belt carry or light stockman in my pocket, I feel good only carrying the Paradigm in my back pocket. So I really end up with a small Avid Vantage in my front pocket 90% of the time. The light weight and the ease of deployment is the key. Will work the same for the large Vantage also.
Worked a little with good gun oil, kept clean of lint it opens 'almost' as easily as a assisted opener. Now if 'they' would just put one out in limited edition with polished blade and matched STAG scales for less than a c note......the deal would be done.

I have a Sirius that was a gift. Haven't carried it, bit small for me. I'm not that big of an AO fan. However, I really do like the Paradigm so would suggest giving that a good look, especially if you are wanting something more hand filling.

I really like my Paradigm, and it has a more comfortable handle than the Sirus or Tempest models but..... if your really into old school, you may want to stick with the old standbys. ;)

I like my 110's and such also, but the paradigm and vantage see the most carry time.

Hi Stockdog,

I discovered the AO knives back in late 04. I bought one each from a few makers. The Buck I had selected was the Tempest and I did not warm up to it at first and carried a blur and a twich for about a year....then pulled out the tempest to give it a shot. It has been my main EDC, it is with me every day. Try it and you will like it.

I have a Paradigm Pro and I like the knife a lot but just to be honest my main edc is a 301 nowadays. The 301 is just so easy to have on me 24-7.If you decide to score a Paradigm I've noticed some great buy it now deals on ebay lately.Much less than I paid for mine and they're new in the box.

Thanks for the input all. I have ordered the Vantage. I see the kid always having pocket lint and dirt getting his gummed up and then hand him my 301 to cut hay rope with.
Bob.
