If this is the wrong area for this I apologize and please move it to the correct forum. I recently purchased a couple GECs and am having a hard time finding a value for them. They are #47 Nifebrite Acrylic Hay’n Helper and a Hay’n Helper two blade in orange Delrin. I have both tubes for the knives but no pins. I was told they were never used and they both look to be new except for a small scratch on the small blade on the orange delrin. Thanks for any help 8D5AA799-C04F-4A77-802D-7A327D0C08FC.jpegC66BA71A-7464-487B-A23C-7DAD1D4C7BD7.jpeg

I am curious, are you looking to see if you were ripped off, or do you think you got a good enough deal that you can resell them for more than you paid? The value of anything is based on what someone was willing to pay, since you purchased them, didn't you see the value in them at whatever price you paid?

Traditionals forum, which is where GEC is extensively discussed, generally does not allow talk about pricing. So this is probably the right place to ask.

GEC did not always put the buttons / pins in every tube, so that is not a big deal.

Prices on some GEC models on the secondary market (Ebay) are stupidly high. I don't know what the demand is for those particular models, but I would not be surprised it it is somewhere north of $150-200.

You might want to check closed (successful) e-bay auctions, or skim the Exchange forum here to see if anyone left prices in their ads versus replacing them with $sold.

I feel like I got a good deal on them but I really am not sure. I just recently got into GECs and really don’t know a lot about each model. It seems like some are high value while others are mediocre. I didn’t know these were for sale until I was shown them and bought them on a whim.

Im not sure if im going to end up keeping both or selling one or the other. I’ve checked eBay completed listings and current ones. I also checked here but everything I found had the selling price deleted. I didn’t know that pins weren’t always included with all the models either. Thanks for the help!

They may have included them consistently more recently. I bought about 10 GECs new in tube from dealers between 2013 and 2015. I think one had a button/pin in the tube. The only other one that has had one was the 2022 Bladeforums Bunny knife.

The Farm and Field sub-brand has its fans. The originals of that line, the Red Neck version, are the really highly desirable ones of that style. Renamed I guess because the name was insulting, but some wear that name proudly and hence the Red Neck version is both rare and desired.

I bought a 65 hogan osage from a reputable dealer and it didnt come with a button.

Was it suppose to be included?

Okay that makes sense then. I only got a couple other GECs but they’re the 88s and they had button so I assumed these would too. No the seller said there wasn’t any buttons but they weren’t into knives. They inherited them and didn’t have a use for them.

I don't know what they're worth, but the orange handled one is definitely valuable, since it'll have O-1 steel. Can't see what year the Nifebrite one is or its steel, but it'll be more valuable if it's O-1 as well. The Nifebrite handles certainly add some value. The hawkbill models aren't as desirable as the sheepsfoot ones though.

Earlier GECs having buttons was kind of a crapshoot. As GEC has become aware that people collect those buttons, they have started adding them to most of their releases for the last couple of years or so. I tend to leave mine in the tube, because I know that the collectors are going to want the pin with the knife if I ever sell.

The Nifebrite is also O-1, thanks for the info! It’s a nice blade but can see why the sheepsfoot is more desirable.

They used to be well under $100 when new. Currently, it depends on the buyer.
O1 is good stuff and I like it more than the 1095 they used after.

Regarding pins, you can buy some variants from dealers, possibly GEC too, if you want them to make a set complete. None of my Farm and Field knives, O1 or 1095, came with a pin.

Like with any hot collectible, price varies considerably depending upon the whimsy of the market, you’ll get the best price at auction where the market decides.
