Hi,

Many years ago my father gave me a knife. I went to look up the knife and can not find anything on it. I am not knowledgeable in this regard so found and joined this site.

The knife is a Case knife with two Xs on the main blade. Dad described the knife as a one hand opener. The other blade is smaller and is traditional. The handle is reddish with some black in it. On the back of the knife is number 205 followed by an R.

If I used any knife nomenclature incorrectly I apologize. If anyone can help me identify this knife and to find more about it this would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Case 6205R razor. Google for that and you will find plenty of information. There are a number of images and you can find them for sale on the big auction site.

What specifically did you want to know?

Also might be listed as a 5205R. The "6" means that it's made of bone (smooth or jigged), jigged Delrin synthetic, or jigged wood. The "5" means stag. Seems like it was made regularly at least through the end of the 80s and perhaps later. I'm not that much of a Case historian. It's not a current production pattern, though.

If you can see the tang stamp clearly, you can look up what year or range of years it was made by looking at the wrcase.com web site: http://www.wrcase.com/case_college/tang_stamps/

If it JUST says:

CASE
XX

in block letters just like it looks there, then it's from the 1940-1964 time frame and you can't tell the exact year just from the stamp.

If it has the letters USA and/or any combination of small dots, then it's from a later time period and you may be able to tell the exact year it was made by looking at the pattern of dots and following the pictures on the Case web site that I linked to.
