Hey,

Is there a way to directly insert Youtube vids into posts on BF? If so, how? :)

Cheers,

Any time someone would stream a Youtube vid (and pretty soon, everyone would be doing it), it would add to BFC's already enormous bandwidth costs. It's for this reason that the FAQs have asked folks to not hot link picture media.

For the record, inserting youtube vids will add almost no extra bandwidth to Bladeforums (as far the videos are concerned), since the embedding links directly to youtube.

The tag is called [FLASH ][ /FLASH] and it's not enabled or installed here.

The folks here have asked not to hot link images because it increases bandwidth on the host server (i.e. other server) not on Bladeforums.

Although it wouldn't increase the load on the Bladeforums servers, it would add immensely to the time to load the thread it's in. Some people have slow connections and could take an hour or more to load a video. :thumbdn:

I'm afraid that's incorrect -when you embed youtube videos, you have to actively add the autoplay parameter, otherwise you just get a preview picture and a play button.

That's right, we could allow the video box in a post but not have it start loading until it gets clicked. That would be a lot like a plain ol' hyperlink but prettier....

I like em' perty. :D

So we might be able to do it some time in the future?

That would be up to Spark to decide. I suspect his first question is going to be WTF do we need videos for on a knife forum?

I suppose we could have videos about sharpening, balisong flipping, all kinds of things in Shop Talk ...

Not just a knife forum however, don't forget the good ol' W&SS. :)

I could see survival/bushcraft/etc. related videos posted during threads.

There's a specific youtube video hack for vbulletin, I can install that.

Ok, [ youtube ] code is now in place. Just take the code for the video, and surround it with [ youtube ] and [/ youtube ] tags.

Example:
