After seeing Bill Buxton's last cable mix blade  -WOW- I wanted to get a better pic of one I made awhile back. Got a new digital camera and with a light tent...I get better pics.

Blade is a mix of Oregon chainsaw, 1045 steel rod, and 1/2" cable. Handle is Sambar and guard is mild steel.

That is awesome! Great choice of materials, and great damascus. I have to drive up to Troy and take a look at that one ;).

 WOW!!!

Greg, that's a great knife! Lines just make it look like it's moving at lightspeed, fine piece of stag, and that damascus is absolutely unbelievable. Then you topped it all off with the subtle filework on the guard, what a fine touch on a perfect guard. You really have something with this knife, if you don't keep it you should send it directly to me!.

Greg,
I'm glad I inspired you to get a better camera, that is 1 beautiful piece of damascus and the whole knife is fantastic.
There's a lot of different patterns a feller can get with cable if they will just use their imagination.

Very nice

Bill

That's beautiful. I guess everyone has their favorite part of the knife but I have a guard fetish. I really like the lines on yours. It blends the whole package together.:)

Thanks for all the comments guys!

Win Dancer: It is an Olympus C2500...I have been playing with lighting and things like that....this pic isnt the best but I'll keep experimenting.

You can see three distinct materials in the blade. The 1045 rod is the plain area....it was down the middle to use as a handle for forging....the fine webbing is the cable and the chainsaw is kinda throughout the pattern but mainly toward the edge on purpose for its high carbon content. Also visible are the temper lines in the blade from the edge quench.

Bill: You are making some serious headway in you welding....I am inspired to do more!

Stunning work, Greg! I've always been partial to a random pattern and that is an excellent example. Have fun with that camera and keep posting the results!:)
