Folks, I just recently read a post by "snow and steel" in which he detailed giving a khuk to a good friend of his. It reminded me of how it's actually more satisfying to give that sort of gift than it is to keep it for yourself. And it has inspired me to do something similar--

I'll soon be returning from Africa, where I've been for half a year now. In the time I've been gone, a lot has changed back home in the States. Friends have moved on to different places and my twin brother got married! So I had just decided to 'pull the trigger' on my first khukuri, when I realized... I'd been giving a lot of thought to a 'gift for myself' upon coming home, but I hadn't thought of what gift to get my bro! And now I realize my brother needs this thing more than I do. There's a Three Stooges sketch where they yell at Curly and tell him to 'shave the ice', and so he puts the block of ice in a chair and goes about literally giving it a shave. While he's putting on the hot towel, he makes small talk with the ice block and says at one point, "So, are you married or happy?" :D

Of course I'm kidding with that quote--my brother's doin fine, but as a newlywed in a new town, he's got a lot of stresses. He's also in grad school, and as anyone who's been a grad student knows, you don't get to budget too many gifts for yourself! So I'm gonna take a trip to visit him and present him with a brand-new CAK. He's as much of an outdoor nut as I, so I expect he's gonna love it. And hopefully it'll be the impetus for him to spend more time outdoors again! If he likes how it handles, I'll eventually order myself the same model in a matching style.

I'll post pics of the two of us with that khuk if I get the chance! It'll be in a month or so. Thanks for 'leading the way', Snow and Steel.:thumbup:

I wonder what your brother's wife will look like when she sees you giving that massive blade to him. :D

Congrants.

Hah! Good thought, Zix. Fortunately she's used to putting up with all sorts of shenanigans from him. Just a few days ago he fell from their attic through the ceiling (creating a huge hole in the living room) some thirty minutes before his wife was to wake up in the morning. And then patched up the ceiling with Ritz cracker boxes, superglue, duct tape, and white-out before she woke up. She didn't notice that morning, which let her go to work in peace and gave him time to think up an excuse.

So while she might not be thrilled to see him with a new huge knife, she's weathered worse storms

Cool idea!

Maybe if you ordered them both at the same time you could get them both as a matching set - that would be kind of cool as brothers to have the matching piece to each other.
