INSTA-CURE SUPER GLUE / ULTRA THIN It didn't turn up in the searches.
Anyone ever use this stuff for their wood/bone scales? Sure seems like the right stuff (CYANOACRYLATE).

Also, while I've got you here ;) , I'm looking to to my first stabilized wood scales and just want to make sure I have the procedure down right...

sand scales down to 600ish grit then...
-apply CA coat
-dry
-sand to ???grit. 600ish again or finer?
-repeat till all pours/voids filled
-finish sand to >1000 grit
-buff/hand polish. Is there a good polishing compound to use?

Sound about right?

I tried a bit on a test piece with some Krazy Glue and it turned out pretty good. I guess the Krazy glue will work in a pinch. I suppose it would be considered a thin or ultra thin super glue?

Thanks for any help ;)

Super Glue, Crazy Glue, Insta-Bond,etc... are all brand names for cyanoacrylic resins. The thinner the better if you are trying to get a penetrating seal on wood.I personally don't like to leave a layer of the resin on the surface of the handles. When I use it to seal the material (porous wood, bone, ivory ) I sand it all away each application until all pores are filled and the surface is dead smooth. This is done at 400 grit. If I want a really polished handle - Once the surface is ready ,I sand with progressively finer grit to 8000. Buffing is done with no scratch pink, or white rouge (my favorite). For most handles, I just sand to 600 and buff with white rouge.

I sell the same stuff (1oz vs 1/2oz linked above). I've used it for a couple of years (before I started selling it last fall) on mammoth and wood that has cracked. It's made by BSI and is in most every RC and Hobby shop in the US under a private label. It's very thin and wicks well. So many super glues are gels or thick now, the runny stuff has kind of faded away but it has it's uses. I also use it seal little nicks and cuts on my fingers. It won't soak deeply in to wood or ivory and stabilize it, but it will wick fairly well for a few seconds into cracks and seal them up.

chuck at Alpha Knife Supply has the the non smelly type super glues in different sizes. He also has the accelerator for it. Works great.

Yeah, I was checking that out but the shipping of liquids/chemicals to Canada can be a real PITA. Not sure if this would be the same though? I can source the Insta-cure locally too (w/accelerator) but no smell would be nice.

Chuck also sells the debonder for his superglues. Very handy stuff incase you stick your fingers to your bellybutton or something else.:D

There is also a comercially available catylist for cyanic glues...?...I know water speeds up the cure time but I meen this stuff is applied to the one side and the glue to the other and when they come into contactBAM insta bond..works ggod for holding inlays etc...wish I could help with the name of the stuff...I got mine from GAMESWORKSHOP actually.maybe some one else one here can asist.
