Installing a laynard without the lanyard tube?

Well, fudge fingers and small lanyard tubes don't mix, I guess. I like to put my own lanyards on a knife, so I snipped the factory lanyards off of my large micarta Insingo and new series Umnumzaan. I tried for so long I was past frustration but in downright laughter at how incompetent my fudge finders were at making a simple burned end lanyard go through the tiny hole. I just took both lanyard tubes out, and fed the lanyard in through the holes.

Is there any reason to have the lanyard tubes in though, other than cosmetic? Both blades are clear of the lanyard. I tried paper clips etc to get the lanyard through, but no dice. I had an original Umnumzaan that I was able to feed the lanyard through, but they look exactly the same as my micarta Sebenza.

No there is no reason. I removed mine back in 2010 and just put the lanyard through the holes in the scale as one would with older Sebenzas.

THe reason you may have been having so much trouble is because you were using normal 550 cord.

CRK uses something a little smaller.

If your using 550 pull the 5 strand a little out than cut about a inch off than pull the outside forward. There should be a inch of the end empty, than cut the empty end to a point. With a lighter close the end. This will give you a point to thread it through.

Yes, cutting off the inner strands to make a smaller point works beautifully. Thanks,

The only thing the tube could prevent is the lanyard backing up into the space where the blade closes when the lanyard isn't taut.

I have taken the tube out of all of my CRK knives. I have a lanyard on two, but I did it the old way straight though the handle. There is no reason you can't do it that way.

I like to use the hole in the scale rather then the tube. With the tube the tip or the blade is always coming in contact with the lanyard, that just drives me nuts.
