Instant notification of Exchange subforum

I might be wrong but I believe in the past you could subscribe to a subforum on the Exchange and receive instant notification by email. The most frequent notification I see is 'Daily by email' Did this change? Thanks.
 
Since I've been on, (or at least recall) only when subscribed to specific threads are you able to be notified instantly by email. Subscribing to subforums have only the 3 options you see.

Now you've gotten me curious to how quickly or often the "Through my control panel only" option notifies you.
