instructions for use of hanging strop

I started using a strop a while ago. I think I read a thread here that was from 2002 on the subject, that got me into it. So I just figured a way out that worked. I put some strop treatment on to prepare it and let it soak in for several hours. I started using red rouge from sears that I applied to the surface of the smooth side. The back of the strop is rough leather and theres a canvas part that was described as used for "warming" a blade.

So is there anywhere online where I can read up on the proper way to use a hanging strop?
 
A hanging strop is best used for straight razors only. Knives should be worked on a hard backed "strop" more properly termed as a "leather bench hone".

The reason for this is that a straight razor has a built in angle guide that keeps the leather from rolling over the edge and thus dulling the blade. Knives do not have such built in insurance and their edges are easily rolled over and made dull with the use of the wrong type of strop and/or technique.
