ok i was packing up to go back to west va early...
( all my jars i brung are emphty)
any way it occured to me that i dont have a compleat listing of my knives..
this in that i had to go look to see if i had one i thought of bidding on...
any way ... i did find 3 incompleat lists but still had some not on any...

DO insurence companys put knives in that excesive value catagory,,,
which requires a 'rider' like guns?
so have any of you guys looked in to this ?
how would we docutment the collector value of a knife that has gotten stolen?
how would you prove it also?
has any one here had the bad experance of a stolen collection and dealing with an insureance company?
whatn kind of hassels did you get?

is there any one with the club that has done apraseals?
both before and after the fact?

i got worred as a dilvery man came to drop off some thing and mentened that there had been a rash of 8 break ins during the day betwen 10 and 3 jest reacently!!! and to be sure to lock the doors...

I had a great collection before a break in and theft ,lost my 110's except a couple out for work and one i had on me..Insurance was very straight forward,I gave an estimated value of my collection, and they cut me a check,I did not have specific insurance for the knives either, but they were covered under our policy.I would say make a detailed list of knives and their values, just to be safe contact your insurance and have pictures of your knives and proof of cost is also a good idea, goods luck.

DAVE:

I seem to recall that you have a fairly complete set of PICS of your knives.
(Photobucket???). Any that are not photographed, should be. Photobucket is a good place to store them since some disaster like a fire could not destroy them. You are sufficiently familiar with them so that you could identify them from the PICS, if a loss forced you to. Then at your leisure, you should make a list with your estimated values. From all I have seen here, you qualify as an expert on values. Read your insurance policy and see if there is a limitation on values for collectibles (not antiques), if not you are probably covered under the personal property coverage portion of your homeowners policy. If there is a limitation for collectibles, usually $500, then you will have to schedule your knives and pay an additional premium for the scheduled items. Finally, call your insurance agent for guidance, and have them confirm in writing what your coverage may be. Then hope that you never need the insurance. First and foremost, photograph all of them.

Insurance coverage of loss of knives and other valuables (jewerly, coins, guns, etc.) under your home owner policy is going to vary tremendously from state to state. In some states, the entire loss may be covered; in others, there are maximum (which may not be very much) limits set, so absolutely you must contact your carrier to determine the extent of your coverage in your particular state. For example, in Texas, loss of guns once was covered completely; now the maximum is $2,000 unless you take out a rider for additional coverage. A complete set of pics may be needed and an appraisal of the collection would certainly be helpful if a loss actually occured.

I should add that i'm in Canada, and probably do not have the same insurance you would get in the states, good idea to listen to somebody who knows about your individual state and the policy you have yourself.

Any large collection stolen will more than likly end up in part on ebay,1 of a kind, serialed number,if compleatly documted, could lead to a recovery! And since you are NOT a big reseller, you could put a secert mark [ inside of bolster?] you can even just borrow a movie camera to do a running commentary of featurs,numbers,value.....thats really easy and fun too....

I don't think the first stop would be Ebay. The crack head (or other miscreant) would have to send it through a pawn shop or some other fence first. Recovery efforts would be very very difficult with out true serial numbers.

A lot of pricy Bucks ARE numbered...034 of 250..ect for example.... I like the movie camera it would be the easyest of all to do ,Just hold it up ,do a close up,say any special featurs inc the serial number,.give your best guess on value and pick up the next one! Just save that film!!!
