Insurance for Knife Collection

As my knife collection expands and as I get into more expensive knives, I'm starting to wonder about getting insurance to cover the value of the knives. I know I could probably get a supplemental policy to cover "collectibles" from our homeowners insurance, but is that the best way to deal with it? Should I go with a secondary insurance company? Also, note that I want the knives displayed, so squirreling them away in a fireproof safe is not an option. Ideas? Have any of you actually ever filed a claim after knives were destroyed/stolen? What has been your experience? Thanks in advance for the help!

I'm pretty sure a "rider" on your homeowner's policy would be the most economical way to go. You'll have to read your policy or consult with your agent as to the conditions as far as protecting your collection. As far as I know, storage in a safe is not required in most areas. You are just required to list and describe each insured piece.
