Is this an actual rule of the forum or a recommendation ? I believe as a seller this is up to me . If I ship with out insurance and the knife is lost or stolen , it is on me to refund the customer which I will do . To do an insurance claim is subject to the rules of the shipper and custom knives are only covered for material only as I read those rules for USPS . I have also read all the horror story's about filing a claim and then being denied as the actual value could not be established .

It's on you regardless if the package is insured or not. It would be stupid not to insure the package, as such you should always include the price of insurance in the cost of shipping. If the buyer specifically requests you to ship uninsured, it'd be wise to refuse.
