Insurance

I tried to log into the web site today also and it was down. They must be doing some upgrading.

This is an agency and not an insurance company, the question is what company the policy would be written through. It would be better to just get a personal articles policy (State Farm is a good choice).

The Blade show endorses using this company. They cover knives in your home, anything that you mail, your knives at shows and in your luggage.

I have had a policy with them for about 6 months and they have been a pleasure to deal with. They specialize in insuring gun dealers a knife makers who have a constantly changing inventory. They do not require an inventory list. A friend had 6 knives stolen out of his bags on the return trip form the Guild show 2 years ago. He filed a claim and filled out some paperwork and they sent him a check for the knives. It's worth it in my opinion.

AT, I also have a policy with this company that covers my knives at shows, at home, in the mail and in luggage. No claim but they have been very easy to deal with. I got it mainly for knives I mail and knives in my luggage. It cost me a bit extra for US mail coverage but I feel it's money well spent as I ship mostly through the Post Office. I know a number of other makers who also use this company.

I have used CIA for about a year now. Of course (thank god) I not "needed" them, that's the true test of how good they really might be. I will say that getting information, setting up the policy and overall communication was great.

I think that's the agency that Don Cowles recommended to me a few years ago. And I remember asking a question of the membership that was never answered: has anyone who insures their knives with them been in a position to submit a claim? How was it handled?

Pardon my cynicism, but ALL insurance agents are nice when they collect your premiums year after year. How are they when it's time to pay up for a loss?

The policy is underwritten by Hartford. I've never had to make a claim, but everything else seems easy enough.
