Recently I have been trying different etching techniques and have been absorbed by the acid/resistant ink method. This is my 3rd try and am quite pleased with the results. I used a cheap knife of dubious quality and after altering the shape of it did the etch.
It started like this:
I have never been a fan of gut hooks, so it was cut off and then the spine was smoothed from the jimping to the widest part at the top. The blade was then taped and the stencil cut, and then the ink was applied and let dry before the acid dunk. The designs are based on native american indian motiffs: one side has a medicine bear with a paw and a slash, the other side has a war paint pony. A 2-tone leather cord fob was done with metallic beads at the tips.
I realize I may have polished a t*rd, but to me it's a pretty t*rd, and good practice to try on better blades
