I really like integrals, especially on my kitchen knives, it really makes for a better feel in the hand when working with a knife all day, but how exactly would i go about blending the bolster into the grind? i did one integral with a hollow grind (small paring knife) and i foundit a little hard to blend the bolster into the grind, seemed there was always a ittle annoying spot where you could see the grind start. so my question is. Is there a certain way to grind and integral so the bolster blends in nicely with the blade?

That's one reason I hate making the darn things. There is a jig I made that helps me a lot. It is one of the few things I use jigs for.

Make a small fixture that the blade will lie flat on with the bolster hanging off the end. It needs to clamp to the fixture.

Mount a fine grinding wheel on an arbor, in your drill press. Adjust the table on the press so the wheel is on the same plane as the blade.

Move the fixture by hand to grind the front of the bolster.

If you are careful it should look like a really well fitted bolster.

well i used i think like a 3" or 4" wheel on a kmg to get the bolster shaped nice..... but i uess if i just slow it down and go easy i could really take my time and blend it in nice.

just run it up your platen and let the small wheel cut it
before you grind the edge.
or use the mill :D
