Intended/Best Uses for 3,4,5,6

Just wondering what you all consider the intended or best uses for each of these knives.
For instance, I'm sure the 6 is the best for chopping, but what about the others?
Which tasks do each excel at, or at least perform better than the others?

izula and izula 2 , small EDC fixed blade
3 - general utility, outdoors fine work, food prep
4 - bushcraft, outdoors, all purpose
5 - survival beast :D , batoning
6 - outdoors again , chopping, batoning
 
3 - Thinnest, so generally the best slicer. Nice 3" blade, excellent skinning and field dressing knife.

4 - Great general purpose knife. Same thickness as the 6, but a compact 4" blade. Capable of doing pretty much any task I need a knife for, and the added thickness is there in case you find a need for some harder use.

5 - Designed by SERE instructors as a knife that has to do everything, including things a knife shouldn't do. Cutting your way out of a wrecked aircraft (or in to one), prying, chopping, bowdrill divot, glass breaker.

6 - For those like like a larger blade. Best chopper of the bunch but not really a great chopper as far as choppers go. Just a nice 6" blade design with a generous choil.

They all have their strengths and weaknesses, my favorite knife of all is the 4 because it's a good middle-of-the-road knife.

Kinda what I thought they'd be good for.
Is the 3 that much better of a slicer than the 4?
I assume they both get as sharp, but the thinner blade of the 3
lets it go through things easier.
Is this correct?

Correct. If I were going to be slicing tomatoes, I'd prefer the 3 over the 4, but general cutting tasks, I've had no issues with the 4.

If you're asking if I think you should get a 4, the answer is yes. :D
 
i think they all come with the same edge geometry(?) making the difference in slicing minute. my 1/4" knife slices as well as my mora, opinel, and kephart as long as the edge is clean.

i was debating 3 or 4 went the 3 route, as the cutting edge is 3 3/8". ymmv
 
Lenny, I bought a 3mil first, then sold it to buy a 4 cause I wanted a little more blade. Today I ordered another 3mil. :rolleyes: My point? Save yourself the hassle and just get both!
 
I have a 3 and a 4. The 3 is by far my most used (edc). Better slicer, decent amount of blade length, and can take a beating. The 4 has made the rotation but I find it most useful as a bushcrafter/camp knife as sheeple tend to stare more when I pull out the 4 than the 3 to cut something.
The 3 vs 4 is a debate I've had many times but I keep coming back to the 3.
 
hmmm i own a 3 and am about to purchase a 4. Should i get serrations? Which do u guys use more in the field, 3 or 4?
