Interchangeable Parts: Endura Series?

I just ordered a brand new G-10 Endura. I am exited about it to say the least.

I wanted to know if it was possible to create a Frankendura:eek: If I buy the "lightweight parts kit" will the G-10's blade fit? I am looking to have an FRN Endura with a full flat grind.

I like the G-10 the way it is, but it would be cool to have options. Do you guys know if that is possible?

Thanks

Don't know if they are interchangeable, but Sal is working on an FRN Endura with FFG.

IIRC, people have done it with the Delica, making the FRN and G10 switched. Don't see why it would be a problem, could be wrong though.

thanks for the responses guys. If no one knows for sure I will give Spyderco a call this week and let you all know how it goes.

thanks

The parts kit does not include a blade, scales, a lock bar, or a spring.

From the way I understand it, whenever you do a blade swap you also need to swap out the liners if it is a linerlock/framelock knife, and the lockbar if it's a lock back knife. This will ensure that it fits together right-otherwise the ball and detent won't line up right, for instance. I don't know if this is because they're fit individually or if this just accounts for any wear, but every once in a while you'll read stories of people who only switched the blade and then everything else seemed "off".

It works out for some and not for others. But if you move over the liners and the lock bar and all, then essentially you have the same knife, but all you're changing is the scales. I think everything is more likely to work out well that way.

It is possible. My FRN flat ground Endura is one of my favorite knives. I switched the blades between an FRN Endura with a ZDP 189 blade and a G-10 Endura with the flat ground VG 10. It's very cool to have a ZDP 189 Endura with a G-10 handle.

If you do that particular swap, DO NOT SWAP THE LOCK BARS. Keep each lock bar with its original handle.

Thanks everyone.

I just want to clarify what you and everyone else has said. Since you already had two knives, with their respective lockbars, it was doable. Since the parts kit does not come with a lockbar (Right?), I will not be able to convert my blade over to FRN (unless I get another FRN Endura).

So my only option to do the switch is to buy an Endura in FRN. Maybe I could buy the lightweight parts kit and (POSSIBLY?) order a lock bar direct from spyderco.

I was hoping it would be as easy as buying the kit, and since it is not Ill probably put it off or forget about it -the G-10 is awesome the way it is anyway.

Thanks guys.:thumbup::)

Good to know. I just ordered my first spydie :D Picked up the last endura in white FRN off of new graham. Nice to see if the addiction gets any worse I have options...

P.S. The people on this forum and the involvement of Sal Glesser really helped me make my decision to purchase from Spyderco. As I am replacing my beloved Benchmade, it only made sense to purchase from New Graham;) AND, since I couldn't wait for the full flat grind FRN endura, there is always the possibility that Mr. Krein may be hearing from me as well. So, there you have it ladies and gents, viral marketing and word of mouth at its finest. Thanks everyone.

That may be true. I will be interested to know the answer.

You can always dye that White FRN too if you get bored with it.
