Would anyone be interested in splitting an order of 0.7 micron Boron Carbide powder from Ceradyne with me?

It costs about $6.20 per ounce when bought by the pound.

If you're interested, please leave a note on this thread. I can place the order this Friday and we can play the waiting game.

Thanks!

Thom,

How do I pay you? I live in Canada, Alberta. Must I take 8 oz, that's quite a lot.

0.7microns? Now that's a more friendly size than HA offers. Any idea on how long the wait is on this? I'll need to cobble another few hones together.

I too am in Canada, NWT more than an ounce is probably over kill but I'll take two. Advise me where to send the money. Mail from here to the US is somewhere between 10 and 30 days. Average lately to Oregon is 21 days.

However he wants. Cash, money order, pay pal. I figure about 20$ US to cover the postage costs and 2 ounces might work. Thom hasn't gotten back to me yet but however he wants to do it I'll go for.

I have used the higher micron size from HA and it worked very well on hard steel, just not fine enough. I figure 0.7 will be much user friendly to work with. Then isn't a big jump to the diamond polish.

Hi everyone. Only have read-only access to here from work, so sorry about the slow reply.

I'd prefer paypal if youse folks are cool with that. My email and paypal addy is tbrogan1 at netzero dot com

Let's figure $6.50USD per ounce and rely on the accuracy of my electronic food scale (don't worry, I'm not a product of said scale ;) ) and I'll order the stuff from Ceradyne this Friday.

Just need to figure out how to write an order invoice email and then ESK/Ceradyne will bill me and mail the stuff out.

The order is on its way from Germany. The MSDS is already here. Don't inhale the dust. Keep the dust away from open flames. Should a fire occur, don't use water to extinguish it. Don't taunt the dust.

It appears that the stuff is best kept in a suspension (I'm going to use mineral oil) and not used with power tools. Should reach my house on 1-30-2006 and will go across North American soon after.

Thom,

You said "don't inhale the dust", does it mean that we have to use it outdoors?

Thanks

It can be used indoors, just care needs to be taken to keep the dust on the strop, not in the air. Any liquid would do. Also, if used with power tools, use a good respirator.

The Brown Truck of Joy dropped off 1 pound of Boron Carbide powder three days ahead of schedule!

Got some tupperware-like containers and three mailing addresses for mailing on Monday.

Let's see what this stuff can do!

Wooo Hooo, just waiting for it Thom.

BTY, my Hattori HD Gyuto 240mm came today, what a beautiful knife.
