I posted this in the Buck forum, but a member suggested I try posting this in the general forum also to gather more interest and get a wider audience.

I contacted Joe Houser about Buck offering or modifying the 882/889 SMBFs with a thicker liner, in the .060-.070" range. The design is great and very popular, but I think many, including myself, would love a thicker liner and liner lock, similar to what the 880/881 used at .065" (which are now discontinued). Joe expressed interest in this also and if there is enough interest, Buck may consider offering an 882/889 with ~.065" liner. Finally, it'd have a beefy liner lock to match the beefy blade and design.

So, let's see all those who would be interested in this!

I'm in.

The only thing keeping this knife from being an outstanding combination of design, construction, and price point for "hard use" is the lousy reliability of the lock. As it is, I just can't trust it. It's a case of "So close, but just too far..."

Whatever the solution is (liner thickness, surface geometry, materials, etc...)...if it can be fixed, I'll buy more. If not, I'll look elsewhere, and as of now, that's what I'm doing. And it's a shame.

What they said. Buck needs to step up the liner thickness - it's way too value engineered - and they should offer a free retro fix, including the rivet models.

Not that I have any problem with my Tarani . . .
