Interest in a Custom-made Fehrman Chopper

Okay, the first like HERE takes us to another thread you started of the same nature that ALSO has a link that actually takes us to the thread in question where it is post number 35 and not 30, that has Fehrman's response. If you could link from here to the original thread that would be more worthwhile and less confusing. Bread crumbs?

Apologies for the confusion. I am not that computer/net savy. I didn't mean to make things difficult.

I am interested as well. however I would like to know a bit more about the 3V steel. It is said to be way tougher than A2 as well as better edge retention.

How is its toughness in larger blades? And how is it to sharpen in the field?

Most of my large blades are forged 5160 it makes an incredibly tough blade well suited to hard grueling use. But ZI would love to find something that has as much toughness, yet takes a very crisp long lasting edge. While being relatively easy to resharpen and maintain in the field.

Mike - For me, 3V is a nightmare to sharpen, at least by hand. Almost to the point that I'm not sure I ever want another knife it, regardless of the benefits. My experience is with a Koster btw. Interestingly, I've had better success using a strop bat with green paste then with the DMT's. I guess if you have a belt grinder and some finer belts, it wouldn't be a problem though...

I've got to disagree.
I have a Koster Bushcraft in 3V and have not had any trouble sharpening it. I use DMT plates, the big 8 inch ones, followed by a strop with green compound. Takes a mirror polished edge and can split a single hair. I'll try to load the pics tonight.
It also holds that razor edge FAR longer than any other knife I have.

Understood. Please just do a search on "Fehrman" here. There are some very good reviews.

I have a Ron Hood Hoodlum, 5160 steel.
I also have a Fehrman FJ, 3V steel.
Both great, great knives.

What I would like is a Hoodlum in 3V....

Too bad the Fehrman Hoodhunters were too hard to manufacture.

Come to think of it, a Shadow scout with a slightly longer handle and 9.5 inch blade would split the difference nicely

I watched ayoutube review of the Fehrman Hood Hunter. I'd snag one of those in a second.

I could have gotten one of the Hoodlum blades. But had another Forged 5160 blade on order. Smae blade length but thicker.

I've read through the Fehrman reviews and they really impress with the edge holding and quality. And the amount of batonning one tester put his blades through was just insane. So it appears that the toughness is there as well.

Personaly I'm very interested if this goes any further.
