I'm considering to purchase the infamous CQC7 with the wave feature, but there are several things that bug me :

1. If I wave it open too often, will it develop blade play ?

2. If memory serves right, for a right-handed user, the flat side of the chisel ground should be on the left side (considering that the cuts are made away from the cutter's body). However, in CQC7, the flat side is on the right side. What's the deal with this ? Any advantages / disadvantages ?

Thanks in advance guys. Keep 'em sharp !

1) No.
2) Don't worry about that detail.
3) Get one.
4) NOW!

Heh...I am not as succinct as Lycosa, but I'll try to answer in my meandering way. ;)

I have not experienced any loosening of an Emerson blade due to waving or any other activity, however, I have heard of a pivot screw loosening from time to time. Such an incident, should it occur, is easily remedied by a couple of rounds of teflon plumber's tape around the thread.

Where the chisel grind is concerned, before I used Emerson knives, I would have been the last person in the world to recommend a chisel grind knife. Now, I don't see how I lived without one. I believe that the choice of a flat side on the right, was for cosmetic purposes only. Functionally, it really makes no difference. Just yesterday, I had occasion to cut the oldest, meanest, fiber reinforced garden hose around. Now, this is a tough job for any knife and my normal cuts on a hose using a 'V' bevel, are all over the map, however, the Emerson went through it (to quote George Patton) "Like crap through a goose". The cut was perfectly straight.

Anyway, I hope that answered your questions Beluga.

APF---Thanks!!
Bro, sorry for my lame post. You can't go wrong with an Emerson knife.

That wasn't a lame post you made, Lycosa, it was right to the point. I wish you could teach that technique to politicians. :D

Thanks for the response guys. I have decided that I'll be getting the CQC7 with wave in a couple of days. I cannot find any lame posts in this thread :)

Appreciate it guys.

No problemo, Beluga, welcome to the fold! :)

I wouldnt worry about wear to the lock etc. as that would be fixed by EKI if it came to it.
The chisel grind may take a bit of getting used to but its been used for a long time so there must be something to it.

Are bot liners really made of titanium?

The thicker of the two liners (the locking liner) is made of Titanium and the other liner is of 300 series stainless that for all intents, won't rust. Taken together, you have strength, light weight and corrosion resistance.

I'm planning to get one too. Are both liners really made of titanium?

I am not sure, but I think the knives made in 2004 and before have both liners made of titanium. Maybe no one where I live buys knives but I am able to find these older Emersons at knife shops.

IIRC they started the switched to SS/Ti liners towards the end of 2007.
