Hello,
I am interested in buying a Khukuri and have HI bookmarked for further
reading. I see locally in one of our stores there is a Cas Hanwei Khukuri
but it's not sharpened? One, why do some come not sharp and two, is
it fairly easy to bring the edge up and thirdly, for a first Khukuri would
the Cas Hanwei be an ok choice until I can select one from HI that
might suit my needs as a decent bush chopper? Thank you.

You won't likely find many fans of that particular um......item here. Honestly, it's far from a great representation of what a khukri is and what one can do.

When you say a decent Bush Chopper, what do you want it to do well?

FYI - Hanwei makes a decent sword, but be aware that all of their stuff is made in China in plants. a HI Kukri is hand forged, tempered and handled by the people who have been making and using them daily for decades - literally. I can't imagne why buy anything OTHER than a HI.

Thanks guys for your input. I was just curious as it was local to me in store.
I'd like to get a Khukuri that is reasonably easy to carry in the bush/camping and
can handle wood gathering, shelter building chores. Would there be a good all
around Khukuri that you guys could suggest that would make an good start for
that application? As always, thanks.
BTW, I will check out that Chiruwa Ang Khola. :)

A 15" Ang Khola is a great all around do everything blade. The Chiruwa is slightly longer, witha stronger handle, at the cost of more weight.

Here's my 15" ang khola... well, actually it belongs to a very dear friend of mine now. at anyrate, this picture should illustrat the size for you, given the other objects in the picture. Hope that helps!~

This question usually ends in an Ang Khola or WWII. In standard or chiruwa variations those blades are hard to beat for all purpose khuks. If you were focusing on lighter brush and springy vegetation clearing, then a sirupate or the like would be a better fit.

I mentioned the CAK because that was closest in shape and size to the one he listed.

An Ang Khola or M43 are always good choices. Some like the WWII, although the one I had and I didn't get along.

Great, thanks for the info and picture! Very nice. Do they come up in the used
market all that often or is it just better to grab one new?

I've only ever seen ONE used, but Iv'e ony been into them for a couple months, so perhaps I'm not the best advisor. That being said, I'd personally rather have a NEW one so that way I know I'm not gettign one that had the edge ruined or has been beat around too much or something. Then again, if you are going to beat it, maybe that IS what you want.
