Hey guys,

I've always really like busse knives. I think they are extremely well made top of the line knives. I've looked in the B/S/T forum for a while and every knife I've been interested in sells within half a day or so.

I've always had feelings for this handle finish:

It looks like it would feel great, and looks ever better.

However that new "boss street" looks quite remarkable. Should I look for something used(recommendations?) or go for the boss street?

This would be a primary "smaller" camping/hunting knife. A next step up in size from my RC-3.

-Richard.

Have you handled and sed an rc 4? I think the bosstreet will perform similarly. It will be a very comfortable blade and I think it will perform well. Just be aware that it is fairly thick which will hurt it with slicing a bit but it will excel in batoning and splitting tasks.

I prefer a little bit thinner (like the rc3) for my camping blade.

The handle slab on the knife posted looks like black canvas micarta to me (same as the Boss)

How much longer will the boss street order be open?

You never know, honestly. They'll probably give a warning on the forum after teasing us with a new blade though. They haven't even started shipping yet.

If you think value, then BOSS Street, If you think function, well that all depends on you, and what you need it for, but both knives are great. The only draw back of the BOSS street, if you even can call it a drawback, is that its only available in black/black.

The handle material in the pic is black canvas micarta.

The machined pattern is 'Raptor'

One of my favorites.

Good luck on your quest.

I know that picture.:D
As stated the handles are black canvas micarta. I would look at what you are going to be using the knife for. The Boss Street is an amazing looking knife and has a blade shape that is sure to be useful as an EDC. With the thickness it will be heavier than the BAD that you have pictured, but that will be a personal preference for you to decide.
Even if you decide to pick up a used Busse you will be making a wise choice. Game Wardens and Active Duty style blades are my favorite for EDC, but there are plenty of others that fit the bill too.

I like to use my knives for all sorts of tasks. When I'm camping it will usually be on my belt or in my backpack. I like to backpack into the country and flyfish for wild trout. I would use the knife to clean trout, and game (squirrels, and rabbits.) as well as some heavier work to make some fire, and clear light brush. I also use it mess around. Opening things and whatnot at camp.

I don't want a "huge" knife. Machete's and those big-ass busse's are to much. I want something that can do a little more than my Rc-3 when I need it, but still be a good knife to have on my belt.

I wanted to say you need BOSS Street as its not big and a good all around knife. However, the thickness of .22 might be a problem for you. If you don't mind it, its a great all around knife, that is on a border of small and medium blade. If you don't mind the thickness it will be perfect for you.

Sounds like the BOSS will be perfect for you. If you find you dont like it you will likely be able to get a close to full return of the cost :thumbup:

First, let me suggest that you take a good look at the Bushwhacker Mistress. I know it's way over the size you are looking at, but if you even think you'll ever want a knife that size, order one while you can. They've been up for a long time and have been shipping for a while now, so they may not be around too much longer, and they'll probably have a pretty hefty demand on them on the secondary market.

That being said, The BOSS Street, while a little thick, is a good outdoors profile for general work, and generally factory prices are the lowest you'll ever see a new condition specimen going for.

That said, if you're looking for an outdoors blade significantly bigger than an RC3, there's always the SAR-4. ;)

A knife of similar size and shape in the busse family that is still available is the hairy carry from swamp rat knife works. There is a shop that still has I believe 3 plain edge LE's and 5 serrated customs. PM me if you want the URL.
I pulled this from the SRKW forum here....

I think someone already mentioned this, but the active duty is pretty much the same size as the RC-3 (I actually prefer the latter over the former).

I also think there would be a bit of overlap with the RC-3 and Boss Street... RC-3 is 3.87" and Boss is 4.25"... The RC-3 can handle quite a lot despite its size and thickness...

For your uses, I'd recommend going after a SAR4 - there are a few on the exchange now at SMOKIN' prices.

With that said, I know you mentioned the large Busses arent for you, BUT if you ever think you might want a larger blade, I'd say ORDER A BUSHWACKER MISTRESS from Busse Combat to pair up with the RC-3... You have an excellent opportunity to own an amazing knife (the BWM) for a very fair price right now....

I appreciate all the replies.

I do understand recommending those huge-ass busse's. I feel like crocodile Dundee carrying those knife/swords. Honestly I've never needed something that big. I'm not the guy to collect knives. If I own one it will be put to it's limits. Just because I enjoy them more that way.

I just want an excuse to try out infi steel to compare to my other blades.

No doubt I'll be able to lose very very little money on it if I end up not like it.

The hairy carry looks sweet as hell. Now I just have to decide between the boss street or the hairy, great. Don't know If I like the 154CM as much as Infi, but it still looks like a great knife.

What would be the maximum size blade that you'd want? Do you prefer a usable sized choil?

Everything you mentioned, ecept cleaning trout & squirrels has me thinking something like a BATAC might be up your alley. This knife's profile might not be the best for that unless you have much experience with a knife. Me, I'm clumsy so if I tried cleaning a trout with a BATAC, I'd probably 'clean' my hand  ...but I'm sure that it can be done.

Other smaller suggestions would be the new BOSS Street, a Meaner Street, a High Street, an Active Duty, a Cultellus, a SAR 4, and a Game Warden... Pix below are in order of OAL model size from larger to smaller:

High Street (pretty much the same size as a Meaner Street, but with a different blade style):

Cultellus (shown with BOSS Street above and a Game Warden HACK edition below):

I hope this helps ya!

IMO I'd take a look at the SAR-4 if I were you - it has heft and the right handle for chopping in a relatively small (for a Busse) blade under 5 inches that also slices well - it was my choice of a do-it-all woods/camp one-knife until the SAR-8 appeared. The easy-to-clean satin finish and thumb jimping are pluses over the BOSS Street.
Best Wishes,
"Bloody Bill"

Also consider the cultellus - a great trout/small game/bushcraft knife with a thin 3 1/2 inch satin blade in a smaller straight-handled package.

Here's an alternative perspective: If you get the Boss Street and are unhappy with it there's a great chance that someone else will trade you an Active Duty or Meaner in your desired finish for the Boss Street.

And btw...I LOVE the Cultellus. GREAT knife!

eddaka , id like to know what you decide on, and how you like it . dont mean to pirate , but am in the same exact boat . looking for a small /med do it all .and want to try the infi . very cool to see all the pics posted
