Interested in some old timey/traditional slip joint folders

I found an old slip joint folder that my grandpa gave to me when I was 7 or so similar to the tools on a pioneer but larger. Been trying to clean it up a bit (a lot of rust and tarnish) and it made start thinking about maybe starting a traditional folder collection. Any recommendations for some handsome and relatively easy to find traditional folders to look at to get this collection started. I've heard of case and like what I've seen but what are some other good brands I may not have heard of in this area?

I would personally get a Case Sodbuster in yellow delrin with the CV steel. CV is Case's carbon steel and given that the sod buster jr and sod buster large are both less than $30 a piece on Amazon, those would be where I would start off with.

Other than that, are you looking for something else like a trapper or stockman or congress? Or are you okay with a single blade?

Edit- just saw your edit. For the next price bracket-ish up, I would go with Queen, Schatt & Morgan, GEC, and A.G. Russell. If it's cheapies and you don't want to spend much, Rough Rider and Kissing Crane are good ones to test the water with. For something that is old timey but not exactly a slip joint, I would check out Moki Knives especially their Large Blankiston's Fish Owl (it's a lock back) and Mcusta

I'd like something with 2 tools minimum preferably 3-4, just looked at the congress and really like it, what are some other brands besides case that are good in that price range ($25-$60)

I would definitely check out the Queen Congress then. I think I saw one on Amazon for around $60.

look around junk/antique stores, flea markets and the like for old pocket knives.

several imported knives are pretty good. Marbles, Coleman, Rough Rider etc.
Queen, Schatt & Morgan, GEC. all american made
buzz

No collection is complete without some pre 2004 Schrade Old Timers. Some of the best carbon steel around, and built to use. Not really anything worth investing any serious money in, but you won't be sorry you got them.

I think Boker has some nice congress knives in that price range.

^^^^ this can't go wrong with a USA made 340T or 8ot:thumbup::D

I just went to an antique store across the street from my work on my lunch break and they had a old schrade with two blades but it was $50, might go back tomorrow to pick it up

That may be a decent price, but depending on what it is. Just don't overpay, even though the original Schrade went under, there are still bargains to be had out there.

Check out Rough Rider. They have more patterns than anyone else I can think of, are high quality, and average well under $20 each, making them a great option to try out a new pattern without spending a fortune ... of course this also makes them somewhat addictive.
Take a read of the 'Rough Rider & Related ... thread. They are well liked here in this forum.
