ive been thinking about pocket clips lately. i carry my knife, be it my BM 771 or 910, IWB at 1 o'clock. while concealment is not a big deal for legal reasons, id prefer people not know im carrying for aesthestic reasons (personally i think a big clip and 1/4 of knife sticking out of a pocket is a tad bit too redneck. this is not an insult to anyone and i accept im probably alone in this opinion).
the biggest obstacle i see to really being concealed is the design of the clip.

if i were to design a clip for discrete carry it would look like a fish hook laid flat on the knife's scales. the curved part of the hook would be level or slightly above the end of the knife so that when clipped on a pocket or IWB, the entire knife is concealed. the only visible part is the clip which would be covered almost completely by a belt or flap on a cargo pocket.
an alternate design would be a traditional mounting point w/ the clip bent in the shape of a U (when looked at from a spot level to a table the knife is lying on) and a hole drilled in the clip so you could access the mounting screws.

has anyone ever seen a knife/clip like this? would anyone else be interested in such a beast?

(ill try to post a drawing to clear up my rather poor description when i get the time)

I've seen the first type of clip that you described.

The second type I haven't seen. Since clips are usually fairly small, the hole in the top would probably compromise the strength of the clip, unless you make the whole clip pretty wide. However, I've seen a similar "folded-over" clip on the Gerber AR 3.00. It looks like what you'd get if you fold over a "Y" shape. I'm sure there are plenty more examples. Many companies use low-riding clips on their knives.

Whadda ya mean calling me a REDNECK!  ;)

Yeah I know what you mean about having so much knife sticking out of your pocket. It is something I can't stand either. I don't care for the stares it ultimately draws. I like to carry a big knife, my current carry is a JW Smith Vanguard Revolution with a 4" blade and an overall length of 9.5 to 9.75". This is a big knife but due to a low riding clip only a 1/4" or so of the knife sticks out the top of my pocket and I rarely get any comments. Last one I got was a question of whether it was a beeper! I said "oh yeah."

Not sure of the clip you have described, but the best I've seen is the Al Mar SERE, and the older MADD MAXX customs that both had a clip that put the entire knife in your pocket with nothing showing. The clips themselves could be attatched to almost anything!;)

thanks guys. the Gerber AR 3.00 is almost exactly what im talking about.
the EDC is very similar to the first design i mentioned but the clip is still too far down the knife. imagine it bent backwards at the first bend so that the entire knife rests below what the clip is clipped to.
