An Amish friend has his grandfathers American Riflemen magazines from the 1920's.
In it was an article how bald eagles were such a nuisance there was a recipe for fried eagle.
A second article was a Finnish guy came here to do ice fishing, he was amazed the "cowboys" (his word) all carried a pocket knife he carried a puuko, which he claimed was his grandfathers.
A third article was about the .38-40 (.38WCF). The author said it was perfectly adequate for deer at 100yds, and bear at 50.
I know an Amish guy who owns a '73 Winchester made in the 1880's and a '92 Winchester made in the 1920's in .38-40 every year he gets his doe/buck and black bear 1 shot each at around 50 yds.
He says the '73 works flawlessly.
