Interesting auto type blade.

I obtained this knife a couple of weeks ago. It had the description of a "pull-a-switch", something I'd never heard of before. Perhaps someone can give me any info on this type of mechanism?

It works by pulling the bottom section out using the chain. As long as you give it a good sharp tug, it cracks open very very quickly. To close, the same section is simply pushed back in (making sure fingers are out of the way :D )

Overall length is around 3 and a quarter inches closed, with a 2" blade. There are no manufacturers markings at all.

It's only a cheapie, but probably the most unusual knife I own.

I remeber seeing a knife like that in a catalog somewhere (along with a lot of $10 boot knives and $20 blowguns). That one also had some break-away neck lanyard thingy so you could yank it off your neck and it'd be open.

I'd actually wondered if anyone had seen them with one of those. If a break away key chain was attached to a belt loop or similar, it would be open in a flash.

I know it's only a cheap toy, but a neat little mechanism none the less. Safety obviously was not a factor when this thing was being made though. It has a fairly dull blade, but the end has a wicked point that bites suprisingly hard when fingers get in the way!

I remember wanting one of those. Saw em in a Bud K style catalog as a kid. They were called "ripcord" or "rip away" knives or something like that. Something with "rip" in the name. I wanted an auto so bad as a kid, and I figured this was the suitable alternative. It really is a neat mechanism though. I'd like to see a maker take this design, refine it, and make a quality knife with the mechanism.
