I picked up this book at my local library, and am about half way through it. It is really quite good, better than I thought it would be actually. The author is a "prepper" and each chapter goes into a new type of skill that he set out to learn. The chapter starts with a nightmare scenario that he tells as having dreamed about it. Then it follows up with him taking courses on that subject. Some of the chapters so far have covered firearms training, stunt driving, psychology, field medicine, even powerlifting and how to hotwire a car.
He seeks out a professional in each field and trains with them for an extended period of time. The two wilderness survival chapters were of most interest to me so far. He trained with John McPherson and Cody Lundin, and goes pretty in depth on how they built skills.
The author, Sam Sheridan is admittedly a bit paranoid and has led an interesting life including being a UFC fighter, woodland firefighter and sailor. The way he combines fictional scenarios with actual training makes for a fun read.
I don't go to far into the prepper mentality per se, but this guys ure has the right idea on how to go about it! If you're looking for a good read, I definitely recommend it.
