Just started playing with Iron, the browser from SRWare.

Based on Google's Chrome but all of Google's spying and data mining features removed from it. Very fast. If you like Chrome I'm quite sure you'll definitely like this one. Has some ad-block capability built in and Chrome extensions, including java block, will work with it.

Have a look.

Thanks for the tip gaj. I love the way Chrome works and have been using it since the beta tests. Now that there is the same code without Google's prying eyes, I'm really liking this!

We think alike. I just switched to Iron myself about a month ago because I realized I had basically signed myself up for Google spyware in the form of a browser. I'm not familiar with Java Block though. I assume it does't just block the execution of all java script? That would screw up a ton of sites I regularly use.

Will do. I could do with less data mining.:)

Java blocking is an optional extra. You can add sites to a whitelist to let them through.

wow it's really nice. perfect so far.

all Firefox does is crash for me, i think because i run a 64 bit OS. I never liked chrome's spying and lack of ad blocker.

I doubt that your Firefox crashes are solely because of 64 bit OS. I'm using Win 7 64 bit and FF runs just fine.

FireFox has had some issue with malware attacks. I have gone back to IE for better security for financial transactions.

Tried Iron and like it ok, particularly the no mining concept.

I've been using Firefox for years with no issues at all.

I'm just too spoiled by the 6-8 FF extensions that are "must haves" and I cannot give them up.

Firefox is what is typically referred to as "bloatware" basically it's designed to be feature rich first, feature rich second and a distant third afterthought is optimization. In other words, it's an insane resource hog. You do have to keep another browser loaded if you use Chrome\Iron as some asp pages (all?) aren't supported.

I get that it's an extension. I just can't find it. Are you meaning Flash Block?

On a side note, I'm running AdThwart and it seems really solid so far. I had Adsweep loaded in Chrome and it wasn't nearly as good.

My apologies, I did mean Flash Block. I don't know what possessed me to write Java block, I'm sure I'll think up a good excuse if I have to though. :)

I'll try out AdThwart, thanks for the heads up.
