Saw this interesting Buck...can anyone shed some light on the model #, blade steel, year of manufacture, etc.?

Looks like a Crosslock that has had the rubber handles removed. ???

Prototype maybe?

I would go with PROTOTYPE as I have two similiar CrossLock prototypes - one with holes almost identical to the one pictured except the knife is smaller and the second a full size CrossLock with a skeletonized handle of polished stainless, with a polished stainless blade. I know for a fact mine are factory prototypes from an era when the factory was just beginning to get into the high tech knives and they were looking for ideas. Unfortunately, they opted to not go "high tech" with the CrossLock series.

Buck offered some special crosslocks a few years ago(in 1997 as I recall). One had a stainless steel handle frame and the other came with an aluminum handle. It is my recollection that the stainless steel model also used an ATS-34 blade. I am unable to remember if the aluminum handled knife came with ATS-34, but I tend to think it did not. Let me check my advertising material at home and get more complete answers. They also planned to offer a damascus handled model but it was very expensive and orders did not materialize to the degree needed to make this a reality. However, there are some prototypes to be found (I own one). Check back for an update later.

Believe it or not, my memory was correct. I can add that according to the literature slick I have at home, the damascus handled Crosslock was also fitted with a standard 420HC blade as was the aluminum handled model.

The aluminum handle Crosslock, Model 180AA (Cat. #2466), had a standard 420HC blade and retailed for $158.00(MSRP).

The Stainless Steel handle Crosslock, Model 180EM (Cat. #2468), had an ATS34 blade and retailed for $196.00(MSRP). Both of these shipped in August, 1997 but were very short-lived.

As Larry said, the Damascus Handle Crosslock, Model 180DM(Cat. #2467) had a high polished SS blade and a MSRP of $500.00. It was scheduled to ship in October, 1997 but never made it into production.

Thank you guys for the great info! The lower picture from Gypsy9590 fits it to a "T". The knife I saw also had a pocket clip...is that unusual? Maybe Buck should consider production of this knife? Titanium handle with a damascus blade, hhmmmnnn! I know I'd be interested!

Dennis - I posted my reply before reading your reply...great information! Thanks a million!:)

Speaking of Crosslocks, you guys ever see this one?
