same blade length
banshee handle is 3-in longer
tarwar I expect is heavier/thicker, haven't checked

HI Tarwar vs CAS/Hanwei Banshee

I'd place odds on Tarwar being the tougher.

Here we go. Got pix........See first post above

Finally found my way back to old homepage site.
They've fortunately made it easier to upload pics there

The Banshee is modeled after a Burmese Dha. Specs from CasIberia.com are:
BLADE LENGTH: 21”
HANDLE LENGTH: 11”
OVERALL LENGTH: 36”
WEIGHT: 1lb 7oz

Specs on Tarwar

29 inches with 8 inch handle. 5/16 inch thick blade, 1 & 3/4 inches wide. Weight is about 2 &1/4 pounds. Full length tapered tang, fit and finish excellent, zone hardened spring steel blade.

Thanks
I had seen those numbers on the Banshee
they don't make sense for OAL

21+11=32", not 36"

& since I believe the 11in handle,
32" oal is likelier

So both seem to have 21" blades,
or, at least -very- close to identical blade length

It's the New Math. ;)

I'll bet the Banshee would make one heck of a machete, but it's not a chopper.

Theyd both make fine naginata/nagamaki/bisento if they were remounted on poles.
I have been thinking about doing that when i get back to america...

I'm pretty sure the tarwar would eat the banshee for lunch in the toughness department. A friend of mine bought a banshee or a very banshee like blade as his first sword a couple weeks ago so we decided on doing few bottle chops with 2 L bottles filled with water hanging from medium sized tree. I was showing him some basic cutting techniques. In one of his swings his aim was a little off and he caught part of a tree branch with the tip of his blade, a d it kind of rolled/bent the edge a bit. Not two swings later i did the same dang thing with my HI kat. the only difference is that the kat severed the 1 1/2" branch, went through the bottle (but it was a very sloppy cut) and sunk itself about 1/4" deep into the tree trunk. The banshee would make an awesome machete though. Really fun blade:)

Mistake?

Ha!

This is just another way of reminding me that I don't have a tarwar yet, right?

Dirty trick, Rusty! But, OK, feel free to send it to me. I'll find the room for it somewhere.

Nah, but did I mention the HI Kora I have?

Now that's just plain mean to mention with no pictures. I searched the archive and all the pics are gone. Got any you could post?

Thanks,

Steve
