I was in the bathroom and had my Meerkat out to cut a thread I noticed hanging from the sleeve of my old jacket. I noticed that the very tip of the blade had a slight burr on it, like as if the very point of the tip had been slightly folded over.

I was thinking that I'd have to get the Sharpmaker out and do a bit of maintenance but as I was looking down at the floor I realised that it was covered in what was basically ceramic like tiles. I gave the Meerkat a couple of light strokes across the floor and, hey presto, burr gone and point of blade still sharp.

So, next time you're in the bathroom and have ceramic tiles you can save a little time and give your knife a bit of a touch up.

I won't charge you for this bit of usefull advice. ;)

My grandmother used to touch up her buzz with a bottle of Vodka she kept in the kitchen. :)

One of the old ceramic tubes used in "knob and tube" wiring from the 1930's and 40's slid over a Phillip's screwdriver works pretty well when you're skinning a lot of wire. I have one I keep in my tool box. Also, the inner tube in a 400 watt high pressure sodium vapor lamp, like from a street light, is made from a similar material.

The rough, unglazed bottom rim of a ceramic bowl works too.

I've seen some of my elders SHARPEN a kitchen cleaver on that...

Haha yeah, my mom used to sharpen her kitchen knives by flipping a ceramic bowl upside down and using the unglazed portion. I wonder how effective it was, but she finally got a benchstone. :)

I hope you didn't sharpen that knife up on the bathroom floor and then go prepare food with it. :barf:

After reading about the car window trick on these forums awhile ago I actually tried it a few weeks ago. Did the trick.

Isn't that where "crock sticks" got their name? I think I picked that up from the Spyderco 204 video.
