As information for those who would not normally look in on the Spyderco Forum, there has been an ongoing series of discussions started by Mr. Spyderco, Sal Glesser, over what a mega-folder from Spyderco should look like. It has attracted a great deal of attention from the legions of Spydie fans but a lot of them seem to think that 4" doth a mega-folder make. Methinks that they have never really seen a true mega-folder such as a CUDA MAXX 5.5", let alone our long awaited CUDA MAXX 7" version. In any case, some of you may be interested in looking in on some of these threads.

It is an interesting thread Fuller, and I tend to agree with you.....a 4.0" folder IS NOT a mega-folder. I also tend to think that everyone else will be playing catch up for a while in trying to duplicate what Camillus has done with Darrel and the Cuda MAXX, not to mention the Aftermath!!:D

That was an interesting read, but it left me with a couple questions:

1. What is a compression lock and could you give me an example of a knife that has it, so I can look at it?
2. I assume Ti is titanium, what is FRN?

I’m trying to figure what I’d use a 5.5 inch folder for. I’ve handled the C.S. Vaquero and another knife of similar size and design (that I thought was a Spyderco). They are both fine knives, I just can’t think of a use for them.

Do a search in the Spyderco forum for compression lock... there is a LOT of info on it.

Basically it's a linerlock that wedges between the stop pin and the tang... it is a very secure lock setup.

FRN is fibreglass reinforced nylon, aka, Zytel.

Biscuits, megafolders are one of those things that you either need, that turn you on (my case), or you just plain cannot understand. This is my conclusion after talking to a large number of people, both Knife Knuts and otherwise, about them. I cannot explain nor can I justify my interest in megafolders, but, then I should not have to do so any more than someone should have to justify their interest in, say, swords or military surplus weapons. If I sound a bit defensive, it's because I am tired of people asking me to do so.

Once they get too big to fit in a pocket and need to be worn on the belt I would rather have a fixed blade. I enjoy the myriad of knife designs in the world, and most of mine are folders, but at some point more is simply more not better.

To each his own . . .

Weel, I find that I can carry my CUDA MAXX 5.5 quite nicely in my right front pocket. I would agree with you about the carrying of a fixed blade, but for the fact that doing so in most urban or suburban areas is illegal or, at best, questionable.
