i was hanging out with a friend the other day when he told me he found a knife on the ground, it was an older kershaw blackout with three holes in the satin skinner-style blade, so i showed him my military. his dad walked in to say something to him and he decided to show us his knife he found in a railroad car many years ago. it was a partially serrated satin frn lockback that i recognized as a benchmade afck with all the oldschool fittings and symbols. it had 440c stamped on the blade, a lot of wobble, and a strange unmarked blackened clip. i told him theres a conductor out there still looking for that one. i wonder how old it was

As far as I know, the AFCK was never available with 440C and the original liner lock.

If it has an Axis lock and 440C, it may be a TSEK or the last generation of AFCK, which isn't that old...

I bought an AFCK when they first came out in 1995. I still have the Spring 1995 edition of Tactical Knives where they pre-reviewed it.

Blade was ATS-34, with all the originals having liner locks.
The new versions have the AXIS lock, but the original was liner lock.
Only other steel I heard they came with originally was M4, which
I had one of those too. Real b---h to sharpen. Got rid of that fast.

When the liner lock version was out, BM also made limited # of left hand models, including the liner lock being on the opposite side. At one time I
had a matched set, but sold them when a good offer came available.
Wish I had'nt!:o

Didn't they make the 820 and 825 in 440C?

Yeah... They made the Ascent for awhile in 440C. I don't know the model numbers and dates, but with Zytel handles, a back lock, and an overall design that's similar to the AFCK, it could match the description.

Sounds pika-ish to me too. They had a lockback and 440C, the AFCK has always had an axis lock from what i have heard.

No not at all. All the original AFCKs had a liner lock. Later on down the road BM came out with a AXIS lock variation of the AFCK called the 806D2 which they have also done a few limited runs in S30V and M4.

True, but you'll only find an Ascent in 440C.

I’m almost positive that the Pika can be had in 440C, I’ve got one hiding somewhere, I’ll see if I can find the bugger.

Edit: according to BM’s website the Pika is indeed made in 440c, I knew I wasn’t going crazy. But now I wanna find were I put it. Problem with moving so many times in a few months is that half of my stuff is in boxes in half a dozen different places.

I know that feeling.
