Today I got another kagas katne from Uncle. The first thing I notice about it is the handle. The three or four previous ones I've gotten had horn handles. This one has a nice saatsial (sp) handle. Then I draw the knife. The blade is a goldish color, completely coated.

Uncle, do you know the story behind this one? Did one of the kamis do this just for the heck of it? What is the blade coated with? Did the kamis make any more of these, or is this one-of-a-kind?

Hey Bob, that does sound interesting.:) I can't wait for Uncle Bills reply.

Have either of you tried rubbing the spine against another pece of metal, or polishing it with some very fine paper? If it is brass, it should give off color.

And IIRC the common kagas katne is primarily made from brass. The fully forged and hardened steel ones from BirGhorka are quite rare for kagas katne.
Usually if they're made from steel they're not hardened again IIRC.

Mine must have been made by Sher...It is as hard as my Bura GS
He may not have appreciated being on that detail, but it didn't stop him from making a good blade, if this was one of his.

I did not know that. Bella's is steel. That's neat, I think I'll have to pick one up some time after Christmas, when I hopefully have some cash.

She's working in a different department, maybe I got her to buy too many knives, so she needed to get away. ;)
I honestly haven't talked to her too much in the past few months.

Oh, I have talked to her on the phone a few times, and it seems she's spent a good deal of time in the hospital in the past few months. She has a lot of things wrong nuerologically.

When you talk to her next, give her our best, and wish her well. Doesn't sound like she's having as much fun as she deserves.

Yeah, from what she told me, her mom did a lot of messed up things when she was pregnant. Heck, I can call her tonight and tell her to get her butt back on here and say hi; she'd probably like to know she's missed. :)

Tell her that her attitude is a good mitigating catalyst for our idiocy - should bring something
