Interesting knife, sounds like it could be a rarity.

For gosh sakes, don't anybody bid on that. Its just a 310. More likely worth 16.00

300Bucks

I have one of those. 300Bucks identified it for me. Got mine off ebay for around $20. By that guy's way of thinking I got a steal............

Here is the sellers text...yes it's interesting with a mix of year blades but date codes are put on when the blade is made, not when the knife is made. The blade configuration with the secondary blades opposite the primary blade is the normal configuration for this model. It looks like a standard 310 (with 309 blade) to me. Cant wait to find out the rest of the story.

READ CAREFULLY to understand how rare this knife IS! I ended this item because I had the original list wrong. Check out my other items! This may be in the top 10 of extremely RARE Buck folders that you will ever see? LOOK carefully at the photos that tell the whole story! LOOK carefully at the 3 blades and HOW they are configured. WHY are the two blades OPPOSITE the main blade which is odd in itself because normally bucks puts ONE blade on a 3 blade knife beside and on the SAME end of the main blade, FACT! The main blade (tang stamp) says 309, but is it really a 309? Go look at a normal Buck 309 and try for yourself to find another THREE blade 309 ANYWHERE YOU WON'T because they (a normal one ONLY has 2 blades). According to the tang stamps, this knife WAS made in TWO different years, BOTH in 2005 AND in 2006 but how can this be because (as we all know by now)the move to Idaho was already complete by 2005, so this is NOT as simple as being a "Transition Knife" as some have implied. THIS LOOKS CLOSE TO A Buck Companion but IS NOT! The mystery continues with me receiving several replies from real Pro's and yet, none of them can seem to agree on a viable correct answer. So allow me MY best guess here-> This knife was NEVER intended to be a public production knife and the idea scrapped because of the additional cost to produce it? It appears that this one fell through the cracks to a member of the BUCK Collectors Club (who happens to be a friend of mine) and gave it to me for my birthday in January of 2007 with a note telling me that it was NOT as it appears and that I would be wise to hang on to it. As it turns out, he was RIGHT! FREE SHIPPING ! Check out my other items!

Here is what the seller had to say to me when I told him it was just a common 310 whittler.

"Dear jb4570,

Actually you are half correct. I recently received a response from the BUCK knife Co. at
Buck Knives
Attn. Consumer Affairs Dept.
660 S. Lochsa St.
Post Falls, ID 83854

Now I have the full story, but I want to thank you for trying and adding your two cents into the BIG mix of replies I have received so far. ONLY 1 person has been correct up to this point. Thanks again !"

Buyer beware, the seller claims to know what he is selling

Here is a copy of his response to me.

According to BUCK Knives, you are very incorrect. To prove yourself right, you would have to ignore one simple FACT, the 309 on the blade. I have the answers and always did. I just wanted to watch all the messages come in and see what the internet experts had to say. Thanks for your rather unusual insight. Oh, feel free to give me a item # for the 20-35 dollar knife you talked about. I would like VERY much to see it myself. Thanks!

I sent him item numbers for a whittler with the same blade configuration and 309 on the main blade which has sold 7 of them for just under $35 brand new.

FACT! I have one Just like this. I bought it USED for $15!! It is, FACT a very NICE KNIFE! If one were to find one of these FACT 310/309s for under $20 You should FACT buy it! FACT!

310's I've seen recently at Bass Pro have 309 blades.

2005's that I have seen had Idaho on both secondary blades. It would be of no surprise to see some of those roll over to early 2006. I think 309 vs 310 blade is luck of the draw. Neat & odd but wouldn't call it one of the rarest Buck knives ever.

The newest claim by the seller that makes his knife one of the 10 Rarest Buck knives is that it has the Idaho stamp on both of the smaller blades. At first it was that it had a 309 stamped main blade and that the blade configuration was rare.

Now his quote.

PLEASE PLEASE send me photos of YOUR 310's w/ 309 min blades that clearly show the two smaller blades WITH the Idaho state on the tangs. Thanks! I REALLY would appreciate it VERY VERY much.

I think this is one of the very rare Civil War Buck pocket knives. At $160, it's a gift.

That is funny right there. But also sad in a way. It is a lot like I just watched a Moki Fish Owl go for $98 + shipping on Evilbay! Just in researching the knife, I have seen much better deals than that.

Folks there is a 310 history on the BCCI website. Again, do not think the knife linked above is worth a lot of money. As I told Desoto in a PM if you were a looking for a complete collection of 310s then it might be worth $10 over regular price to have one. Or at regular price if you were a whittler. These 310/309s continued to be made for Bass Pro after being dropped from the Buck catalog. Most of the ones from BP came in a sliding top wood box. The ones you see in BP stores and catalogs will all have 309 stamped main blades. The actual most valuable and rarest 310 is not that mixed parts knife but the Brown Bone 310 which was made in very limited numbers. Find one of those for $20 you better jump on it.

That is the exact same reply he gave me....lol

I then asked about the box and label..... he lost the box but said he remembered it was from 2005.

My vote for the second most desireable 310 would be the first year, 1994, it had flat ground blades.

That would fit exactly with his knife....I bet it had a December date. Buck seems to start using the next years blades in December sometimes.

Let's let it go and close this thread.....................
