Hi all,

Boker posted a number of new knives on their site. Here are a few which I think are especially interesting. What do you think?

1. My fave, in fact an almost certain buy: a compact and light 8cm full tang fixed blade in the "good quality/price" Boker plus series: The Boker Plus Dozier with AUS8 blade, and an olive wood or walnut handle:

2. Boker Plus CLB Kerambit. Not really something I would use, but it looks cool and I love CLB's other designs. Again, an interesting quality/price. 440C steel.

3. Deliciously different: the Boker Napoleon. Damascus and made in Germany, hence not cheap. Blade a bit longer than 2 inches. I want it, but at 199 Euro it's damn expensive!

4: A friendly nod to Spyderco (who gently approved): the Boker Buddy slipjoint. It looks very nice to me, an alternative to the Spyderco UKPK:

5. From the highly affordable (and usually reasonable but not great quality) Magnum series, a near indestructible (6mm) full tang survivor knife. Not exactly pretty, but interesting. Steel is not spec'd but probably the taiwanese approach to 440C as often used for Boker Magnums.

6. from their South American factory, a somewhat Bark Riverish looking hunting knife: the Boker Arbolito Cordoba. I think it's pretty.

7. To end, not a knife but rather a truly splendid damascus letter opener !

This hobby brings so many temptations...

I like the walnut handled Boker Plus Dozier a lot. The Boker Buddy slipjoint is my favorite and one that will be purchased.

I posted the karambit above as it looks cool. But I wonder, does this type of knife have any use outside SD?

If I remember correctly, the kerambit was originally a utility blade, so yes, such a blade design could be used for more than self-defense.

Phil, ok I can (with some difficulty) imagine that the general curved form of the knife doesn't preclude utility jobs, but the blade profile of this particular one seems very tactical to me, or am I wrong there?

Well, a knife's a knife. You've got a straight edge there, a section of curved edge, and a point in the middle for scoring. Any or all of them could serve utility purposes.

"Chad goes Karambit! This Chad Los Banos design has it all - framelock, G-10 handle offering remarkable carrying comfort, and a spring-assisted carabiner. The blade is made of 440C stainless steel, titanium coated, and provides outstanding cutting performance with its recurved tanto style shape. Blade length: 2 7/8". Overall length: 7 3/4". Weight: 5 oz"

Ooh...framelock. Hm...when are they ever gonna put any "higher end" metals on Chad Las Banos' designs?
