Interesting News Article

Nice article, shows that Buck is trying to practise very sound business.

Stunning how much cost differences are bewteen California and Idaho.

It is a very good article. I didn't realize that Buck made stuff in China.

It's hard to deal with that fact to tell you the truth.

30% of their stuff is imported from the China buck plant. WOW. That stinks.

Anyone want to buy my Buck 110? :D

Good point.

I guess I just don't like China because of their view on human life. They don't seem to care about human life at all.

I would prefer Taiwan, Mexico if I had my choice. ;)

I'm just getting into knife collecting and this trend is very disheartening to me. :(

Many times, before I buy a product, I try to indentify which one is the most American made. That applies to tools, guns, tires, etc. This often takes a lot more effort than it should. For example, try to find a web-based knife seller that indicates the country of origin for each product. The only one I could find was http://www.cutleryshoppe.com. I mean, the manufacturer's own web sites don't even clearly indicate where they're made.

Because of this difficulty, once I identify a worthy manufacturer, I usually remain loyal to them.

One of the reasons I feel compelled to buy a particular product sometimes is because it's American made.

But they all do it. They sell their souls to the Communists only to get bought out, down-sized and phased out. I can't say I blame them thou. Most Americans just want stuff cheap.

Which knife manufacturer would you say qualifies as the "most American made"? I thought Buck was a safe bet.

Actually, I'm both suprised and happy that Buck decided to make any knives in the U.S.

Think of it as taking advantage of those poor commies. It makes me feel better.:D

If you really want to support the American little guy, buy some local customs or semi-customs. There are many many to choose from. Otherwise, read the label and vote with your dollars. The more folks do that, the longer Buck can keep making knives here.

Well atleast Buck is 70% American/30% Communist oops I mean China

Buck is not 30% communist.

They simply import 30% of their stuff from their factory in China.

Yep they paid a fortune to get those Americans to move to China and work in the factory. Because if they didn't the Communist Chinese Government would decide who would work there. And it's a good thing all those American employee's working in China are sending all there wages home. The Communist Chinese Government does not charge Buck a RED cent for factory space or the work camp for those American employee's. Those people in California who lost there jobs had no input for the American economy. So yes I see your point Communist China gains nothing from Buck.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for the post, most interesting article. I hope you will post the second article as well. I live here in sunny CA and the company that I work for in South San Francisco just bought land in Oregon. They will be building a new MFG facility there and the department I work for will be relocated there.

So my family and I will be faced with the same issues as the old Buck employees. Find a new place to work or relocate to a foreign land. No offence to Oregon; but, after living in the republic of CA my whole life it will be hard to adjust to the real world elsewhere. Not that moving would be a bad thing mind you; however, it would be hard on the rest of our family. Hay.... I'd be closer to the Buck plant!
