What do I think? I'd never be interested in buying it myself, but I can certainly understand why it would be worth a respectable amount of money to a collector. An interesting piece of history there, and in very good condition considering its age.

I think its a piece of Buck history and has a nice blade profile. Toooooooo pricey for me by about the 100th power.

"Collectibles" can get crazy expensive really fast. I've seen Randalls go for $35,000, Scagels sell for more than that, and Lovelesses are right up there too for some of the more rare ones. Like I said, I'm not paying that kind of money for a knife, and probably wouldn't even if that kind of money was chump change.

i spoke with the seller,
it was his grandfathers i seem to recall
and he got it from Al..
He is a great person and is going to
send 300 a cd with the images for his slippie history!

I love that 117, but I'd have to sell all my knives to pay for it. Considerably more than was quoted in "Blade's Guide to Knives & Their Values"

I have 2 Buck Granddaddy Barlowes that I love. One is ivory and one black. I wouldn't trade either for that knife. JMO

The guy was asking $7750 I believe. I'll try to remember to double check that for you.

That seems a fair price:eek:

I dont want to get gigged for deal spotting so I'll state I saw one very recently on an auction site with what looks to be yellow sawcut derlyn scales for about the same price...except for the 77. Looks to be about 9" long open.
Thats a big barlow.
