cleaning out some stuff and came across this which I must have purchased 8-9 years ago or so at a knife show or something. Anyway, the blade is about 12 inches long fairly solid. The handles are pinned rock solid with what looks like brass pins, one large and 4 small. This thing was made for heavy work. Thickness is about 1/8 inch. It holds an incredible edge and takes to sharpening easily. Age wise it looks circa mid 1800's. What caught my eye about this knife is that last night I watched the new Rambo movie and that knife looks like a heavier version of this one. Have you guys ever seen anything like this?

I think some companies used to make something similar that was called a lettuce knife.

Nice.

My grandma has some oldies like that. She wanted me to sharpen them for her, but after watching her use them to open containers carelessly I decided that she would loose her hand if I sharpened one for her.

interesting. Makes sense. As you get more cutting edge for overall length. So Rambo made himself a super lettuce cutter. :D

I watched that movie last night too

Anyway, looks kind of like a corn knife

very old wood, but not sure what kind. probably hickory or something equally tough

I had one when I was a teenager that was made from a lawnmower blade and handled with bamboo. It would take a wicked edge using files and was an extremely useful blade all around. Made all my machetes and camp axes useless. Ugly as sin, but it made hard work easy.

Simple, useful, no frills design.

you're right it balances much better than a machete. Not sure what kind of steel it is, but it is definitely a carbon steel due to age. It definitely does not stain easy however

When I was a kid, my uncle had a grocery store. He sold cheese that came in big wax-covered wheels (everyone just called it "store cheese"). He used a knife just like that to cut it into wedges to package and sell.

Stay sharp,

As opposed to "government cheese"?? LOL

Do you have the matching mounted 50-cal, Cobalt?
